Media: Israel carried out a "limited" retaliatory strike against Iran
Last night, Israel launched a retaliatory strike against one of the military sites in Iran. According to preliminary data, the target of the attack was an airbase near the city of Isfahan.
According to Iranian press reports, explosions were heard near the airport in Isfahan province. Nearby is the city of Natanz, the central point of Iran's uranium enrichment program. Iranian state television reported that air defense systems were activated, and three UAVs were destroyed. Additionally, several media outlets report the activation of an air defense system in Tabriz.
Iranian officials stated in the news that there was no missile strike from Israel and that the explosion heard in Isfahan was the result of the activation of the Iranian air defense system.
Meanwhile, in response to the attack, Iran has indefinitely suspended air traffic over Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz.
Israel's actions were in response to an attack that occurred on the night of April 14. The Jewish state immediately announced a retaliatory response to Iran's attack. However, the US and the UN urged Tel Aviv to exercise restraint and reduce tensions in the region. Nevertheless, Israeli authorities notified Washington of plans to launch a limited counterattack against Iran within 24–48 hours.
Recall that a massive attack on Israeli territory by Iran occurred from Saturday night to Sunday. In total, about 400–500 drones and about 150 missiles were launched from the western provinces of Iran. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), 99% of them were intercepted or shot down. The damage from the attack was minimal, including damage to one of the military bases in the Negev Desert in the south of the country.
