Media: Illegal migrants continue to arrive in Cyprus
Another boat with illegal migrants has been spotted off the coast of Cyprus. Over the past few days, the number of vessels has increased to 15.
Irresistible migration flows off the coast of the Republic of Cyprus are growing. According to local media reports, on Thursday around noon, another boat was spotted southeast of Cape Greco, aboard which, according to unofficial data, there were about 33–35 migrants. It is expected that the migrants will disembark at the port of Golden Beach.
It is worth noting that the number of arriving boats with migrants sharply increased since late March. In total, starting from Sunday, 14 boats with 761 migrants were recorded. With today's vessel, the number of boats arriving on the island will increase to 15.
Since the beginning of the year, the number of arriving migrants has approached 2,500.
Due to the sharply increased flow of illegal migrants, the National Security Council of the Republic of Cyprus has convened for an emergency meeting.
The President of the country, Nikos Christodoulides, has appealed to the head of the EU Commission to intervene in the situation.
