Warning shots fired during discovery of a stolen vehicle in Ayia Napa
Police reported that at around 01:30 at night in the Ayia Napa area, a vehicle listed as stolen was located.
When officers signaled the driver to stop, he failed to comply and attempted to flee, increasing speed. During the pursuit, the vehicle collided with two police vehicles. Warning shots were fired to stop the vehicle.
Afterwards, the car entered the oncoming lane on the Larnaca–Ayia Napa highway and, when exiting the highway, collided with a third police vehicle. The driver then drove onto a dirt road toward an area controlled by the British Bases, abandoned the vehicle, and fled on foot in an unknown direction.
Three police vehicles sustained minor damage. The case is being investigated by the Ayia Napa Police Station and the Famagusta Investigation Department.
