Rescue Teams Find No Survivors After Shipwreck Off Cyprus Coast
The search for survivors following the shipwreck of a boat carrying illegal migrants near Cape Greco, Cyprus, has so far yielded no results. The rescue operation has been ongoing for the third consecutive day.
Rescue teams have been scanning the waters southeast of Cape Greco since March 17. Operations continued throughout the night, but no additional passengers have been found.
According to the Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Center (SRC), the operation is still ongoing within the Republic of Cyprus' search-and-rescue area, but it has yet to produce any positive outcomes.
To recap, the boat capsized off Cyprus' coast on Monday evening. Initial reports suggest there were 21 people on board, and at least seven fatalities have been confirmed.
Rescuers have pulled two survivors from the water, with one survivor stating that the vessel had departed from the Syrian port city of Tartus.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) is continuing its search for the missing, but after two days of searching, no new developments have been made.
