Limassol Court Sentences Students for Creating AI Pornographic Deepfakes
Limassol Juvenile Court has sentenced two high school students who confessed to creating and distributing pornographic content generated using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The victims included their classmates and one teacher.
According to the publication "Phileleftheros," the investigation began in November 2025. The teenagers used specialized software to overlay real people's faces onto obscene images. The finished files were distributed in closed student groups, which soon came to the attention of school authorities and the police.
The court sentenced one teenager to 12 months in prison and the second to 9 months. The execution of the sentences has been suspended for three years (probation). The convicts were also ordered to perform 120 hours of unpaid community service and will be under the supervision of the probation service.
This case is the second high-profile matter on the island involving AI use by teenagers. Earlier, in October 2024, a similar incident occurred at the British Bases in Dhekelia, where a 14-year-old student distributed edited photos of female classmates. At that time, the court issued a conditional warning.
Authorities emphasize the importance of digital hygiene and warn that using AI for bullying and creating illegal content carries real criminal liability, regardless of the offenders' age.
