The increase in hospitalizations with influenza A is seasonal, Okypy says
On January 5, Okypy representative Charalambos Charilaou stated that the recent increase in the number of hospitalizations of patients with influenza type A in Cyprus is a seasonal phenomenon and does not constitute a cause for concern.
He noted that the rise in visits to public hospitals is within the expected range for this time of year. According to him, a similar trend is observed annually from January to April.
The Okypy representative emphasized that the healthcare system is equipped to operate under conditions of increased patient numbers. He stated that health authorities are ready to cope with the increased workload both in emergency departments and in inpatient hospitalizations.
Charilaou also explained that the higher attendance at emergency departments during the holiday period is partly due to the fact that private doctors and specialists were on vacation, and public hospitals assumed part of the burden. He added that rapid-access clinics continued to operate during this time, providing examinations for non-urgent cases without delays and ensuring patient satisfaction.
