Over 700 Civil Marriages in Akamas in 2024
In 2024, the Akamas municipality hosted between 700 and 750 civil weddings, generating approximately 420,000 euros in revenue, according to an employee of the marriage registration service.
While this represents a decline compared to 2023, when the municipality facilitated 800 weddings and earned 500,000 euros, the representative described the past year as satisfactory in an interview with the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
"Bookings for 2025 are already looking promising, and we expect the numbers to align with those of 2024. The municipality is also accepting bookings for 2026, and early signs indicate that next year’s bookings will exceed those of 2024," the statement added.
It was noted that the majority of couples choosing Akamas for their civil weddings are from the United Kingdom, while newlyweds from Russia, Poland, and other European countries also visit the region.
Although some ceremonies are held at the town hall, most couples prefer outdoor venues. The most popular locations include the Peyia Fountain, the sea caves in Peyia, and various coastal hotels and estates that are specifically designed for civil ceremonies.
Civil partnerships have been legally recognized in Cyprus since 2015. The law was passed by the country's parliament on November 26, 2015, and was published in the official gazette on December 9, 2015. The law allows both same-sex and opposite-sex couples to enter into civil partnerships.
The Akamas municipality actively promotes itself at international exhibitions as a prime wedding destination to attract tourists.
