Cyprus Postpones EU Council Meetings Due to Regional Escalation
Cyprus, currently holding the Presidency of the Council of the EU, has rescheduled several planned meetings following a drone strike on the British Akrotiri airbase amid the crisis surrounding Iran.
According to an official statement from the Presidency, the following have been postponed:
- Informal meeting of Ministers for European Affairs (March 2–3);
- Informal Culture Council (March 5–6).
Regional events affecting air travel to the island were cited as the reason, as many participants were unable to arrive in Cyprus.
The General Affairs Council meeting had also been previously rescheduled.
The statement notes that other meetings planned for this week will take place in an online format. New dates for the postponed sessions will be announced at a later time.
