A British citizen was detained at Paphos Airport for attempting to export a large quantity of cigarettes from the island. The 44-year-old man has been arrested for illegal possession of duty-free items and taken into custody.
According to the police press service, the passenger was apprehended last Monday as part of an investigation into the illegal possession of duty-free goods. Around 17:55, a customs officer at Paphos Airport was informed that two large pieces of luggage containing a large quantity of tobacco products were found in the departure area.
During the inspection of the British citizen's luggage, 261 packs of tobacco weighing a total of 39,750 grams, as well as 100 blocks of cigarettes with 20 packs each, were discovered.
All the cigarettes found did not have the required Ministry of Health markings. The illegal products were confiscated as material evidence. It turned out that these were duty-free goods.
