International Tree Planting Event Held in Agios Therapontas Under You Reforest Cyprus

The You Reforest Cyprus program continues its large-scale campaign to restore areas affected by wildfires. A recent tree-planting event took place on Sunday, February 8, 2026, in the village of Agios Therapontas, bringing together volunteers of various nationalities.
The event saw participation from Cypriots, Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians, and Israelis. Participants planted over 2,000 trees as part of a long-term program for greening and ecosystem restoration, with a particular focus not only on planting but also on the subsequent care of the saplings to ensure their survival.
Organizers noted that the event served as an example of international solidarity in environmental protection. At the same time, the fact that there were fewer local participants than foreign volunteers sparked discussion, prompting reflection on the level of local community engagement in environmental initiatives.
The event was attended by representatives of the local community, environmental organizations, and political figures, including the Minister of Health, Neophytos Charalambides. The initiative was held with the support of AGPLAW, various sponsors, and public associations.
The project was initiated by the Green Shield Cyprus organization as part of one of the island's largest reforestation programs — You Reforest Cyprus.
