A new Primary Health Care Centre worth €5.2 million opened in Akaki, Western Nicosia

On October 5, 2025, the Hadjiyianni Health Centre in Akaki, Western Nicosia, was officially inaugurated by the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY). The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, Minister of Health Michalis Damianos, MPs, mayors, community leaders, and philanthropist Andreas Hadjiyiannis.

According to OKYPY, the project cost €5.2 million and the building covers an area of 3,355 m². The new centre is part of a network of 37 health centres and will serve more than 15 communities in Western Nicosia. It provides primary medical care, emergency services, minor surgeries, and radiological and cardiological examinations.

Chairman of OKYPY, Marinos Kallis, emphasized the systematic development of healthcare infrastructure and announced major investments: over €46 million have already been allocated to key facilities, more than €70 million to new medical equipment, and a €182 million modernization programme for hospitals and health centres is planned for 2025–2027.

Philanthropist Andreas Hadjiyiannis and President of the Akaki Community Club, Eleni Georgopoulou, highlighted the importance of the centre for residents of the western border region. The project was initiated in 2005 by the late Giannakis Hadjiyiannis and completed twenty years later.
