Illegal Kiosk in Akamas to Be Demolished

One of the two illegal snack kiosks operating in the protected marine zone of Lara-Toxeutra in Akamas is set for demolition following enforcement measures by the Paphos District Administration (EOA). The fate of the second illegal structure, located near Avakas Gorge, remains undecided.

A district inspection confirmed the presence of two unauthorized structures, one of which was built on state forest land. The Forestry Department has been notified and is expected to proceed with its removal.

The second illegal structure, a container snack kiosk, was set up within the Lara-Toxeutra protected marine zone. The land was leveled, and the structure was installed without permits. The plot is reportedly owned by the Holy Metropolis of Paphos, which was formally notified on March 17 and given seven days to remove the structure.

If the owner fails to act within the given timeframe, the Paphos District Administration will proceed with forced demolition.

Earlier reports revealed the emergence of unauthorized commercial stalls within the Natura 2000 special conservation area, particularly in Platanos, Avakas Gorge, and Alimma (near Aspros Potamos).

The Terra Cypria Cyprus Environmental Protection Foundation was the first to raise the alarm, notifying the Ministries of Interior and Agriculture.

On March 21, the Game and Wildlife Service visited the site and fined the owner €2,000.
