A 12-year-old boy diagnosed with Type B influenza has passed away at Makarios Hospital. He was scheduled to be airlifted to Israel for specialized treatment yesterday morning.
According to reports, the child, a resident of Larnaca, had been referred to the hospital by his pediatrician. However, his condition deteriorated rapidly within hours due to severe complications.
Doctors immediately transferred him to the intensive care unit. Following consultations with the Ministry of Health, approval was granted for his emergency transfer to Israel to receive advanced medical care.
His air evacuation was planned for Thursday morning, and his family had already completed passport formalities. However, during the night, his condition took a sudden turn for the worse. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, he passed away early this morning.
The health authorities have extended their deepest condolences to the grieving family.
Meanwhile, medical professionals in Cyprus have noted a shift from seasonal colds and infections to an increase in allergies with the arrival of spring. They also anticipate a rise in gastrointestinal illnesses and gastroenteritis cases in the coming weeks.
