Over 180 Bus Stops to Be Replaced in Famagusta
The Famagusta Municipality is set to replace a total of 186 bus stops. Installation work began on Tuesday, January 21, in Paralimni and will continue across all municipal districts.
“These new bus stops will use telematics to provide real-time information on bus arrivals,” the municipality stated in its announcement.
Before the tourist season kicks off, the replacement of 72 outdated and poorly maintained bus stops in the Protaras tourist area is expected to be completed.
Following this, the remaining 114 bus stops in the Paralimni-Deryneia municipality and four other local districts will be replaced.
This initiative is expected to reduce traffic congestion and lower pollution caused by bus exhaust emissions by encouraging greater use of public transport.
The Paralimni-Deryneia municipality is working closely with the Famagusta OSE to build a transfer station, a project the government is promoting, following similar efforts in other cities across Cyprus.
The municipality also expressed its appreciation to the Department of Public Works and the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works for their collaboration in installing these new bus stops to better serve the public.
