On the anniversary of the TRNC's founding, Cypriot students held an "anti-occupation" rally
In the Republic of Cyprus, on November 15, the day of the 41st anniversary of the TRNC's founding, "anti-occupation" rallies were held by students. The protest actions were organized by the Psem student coordination committee.
The largest event took place in Nicosia, where a march was held from the wholesale market in the eastern suburb of the capital, Kaimakli, to the Mia Milia (Haspolat) checkpoint, which has remained closed since the events in Cyprus in 1974.
Approximately three thousand people participated in the march, chanting slogans in support of a federal solution to the Cyprus issue and unity between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities.
- We will fight until the final restoration of Cyprus, until the liberation and reunification of our country and people, - said Psem chairperson Georgia Grigoriou after the marchers arrived at the checkpoint.
She also added that "Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots should be allowed to live together freely and peacefully, away from guarantees, violations of rights, and imperialist interventions".
In their calls, the organizers of the rally advocated for "a solution to the Cyprus issue and the reunification of the people within the framework of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation and the immediate resumption of negotiations".
Rallies were also held in other major cities of Cyprus – Limassol, Larnaca, and Paphos.
Students have also been invited to another rally, which will take place on November 18 at 11:00 near the American Embassy. It is expected that high school students from Nicosia and other provinces will take part.
It is worth recalling that on November 15, the 41st anniversary of the TRNC's establishment was celebrated in Northern Cyprus. Festive ceremonies and official events took place throughout the country.
