Cyclone Helena Approaches Cyprus on Christmas Eve: Weather Forecast for December 24
The Meteorological Department of the Republic of Cyprus has announced that a cyclone named Helena, originating from the southern Adriatic Sea, will begin to impact the island on Tuesday, December 24. The cyclone is expected to reach its peak over Cyprus on Christmas Day, December 25.
On Christmas Eve, the morning will bring variable cloud cover, with isolated showers mainly in the western parts of the island. As the day progresses, the skies will become overcast, with local rain and thunderstorms spreading first to the west and south, and then to the rest of the island. In the mountainous areas, wet snow may fall.
Daytime temperatures are forecast to reach around 17°C inland, 19°C along the coasts, and 7°C in the mountains.
By evening, the weather will remain predominantly cloudy, with occasional showers concentrated in the western half of the island. Wet snow is also likely in the mountains.
Overnight, temperatures will drop to approximately 8°C inland, 12°C along the coasts, and 4°C in the mountains, where frost is expected to form.
On Christmas Day, Cyprus will see mostly cloudy weather with scattered showers, initially in the west and south, gradually extending to other regions. Thunderstorms may bring hail, while snow is anticipated in the higher mountains.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly and will remain close to the seasonal average.
