Larnaca authorities have declared two apartment buildings unsafe and subject to immediate demolition. These are buildings in the Chrysopolitissa and Faneromeni areas, which, according to experts, pose a risk of collapse.

The decision was made following a series of inspections conducted by the Larnaca Regional Local Government Organisation (EOA) as part of a large-scale program to identify dangerous and dilapidated buildings. Demolition procedures will begin within the next 24 hours, and residents will receive official mandatory evacuation notices.

According to local authorities, a large number of people reside in the two buildings. Residents will be given a few days to find new housing, and a census of the affected families is currently underway to determine the extent of the problem.

Of particular concern is the fact that an additional 13–14 buildings have been identified in Larnaca that are also considered potentially dangerous. Most of those living in them are foreign nationals. In the coming days, specialists will conduct further technical inspections to determine if demolition is necessary.

In parallel, the EOA is finalizing a digital registry of unsafe buildings. According to preliminary data, there are more than 900 structures showing signs of dilapidation across the city and Larnaca district, although the initial estimate was around 560 properties.

Today, May 19, a special meeting will be held in Larnaca with the participation of the mayor and representatives of municipal services, where the results of the inspections and a further action plan to ensure residents' safety will be presented.
