A serious multi-vehicle accident occurred in Larnaca on Sunday evening, involving five vehicles and caused by a drunk driver. Among the vehicles, a truck transporting dogs overturned during the crash.

According to the police, the incident happened around 6:00 PM on the Rizoelia–Ayia Napa highway near Pyla.

The collision involved five vehicles, including the truck carrying animals. Three people were injured and transported to Larnaca General Hospital for treatment. As a result of the crash, one lane of the highway was temporarily closed to traffic.

The investigation revealed that the accident began when a passenger car collided with the truck carrying animals, causing it to overturn. This initial collision led to three additional vehicles being involved in the accident.

The impact was so severe that the dogs in the overturned truck were ejected onto the road. Three people sustained injuries and were taken to Larnaca General Hospital by ambulance. Fortunately, medical reports confirmed that none of the injuries were life-threatening.

The driver of the passenger car was subjected to a breathalyzer test, which revealed his blood alcohol level to be five times the legal limit—100 mg compared to the permitted 22 mg.

Officers from the Larnaca Police Department and the OPOD headquarters were on-site to manage the situation and investigate further.
