A police officer tragically lost his life while on duty in Larnaca
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening around 9:00 PM. 48-year-old Sotiris Constantinou, a police officer serving with the KEM-ULAE unit in Larnaca, was driving his service vehicle along Makarios Avenue from the port towards the city center, with a colleague as a passenger. Suddenly, he experienced severe chest pain and stopped the car in the left lane.
His colleague got out to approach him and offer assistance. However, before he could do so, the car began moving and collided with a parked vehicle, then crashed into a streetlight pole before coming to a halt.
Emergency medical teams arrived at the scene, administered first aid, and rushed the officer to Larnaca General Hospital, where he was treated for cardiac arrest.
Despite the doctors’ best efforts, they were unable to save him, and he passed away shortly before 10:00 PM.
