New modern waste recycling point being built in Larnaca
Construction of a new large Green Point is underway in Larnaca, replacing a temporary facility that has operated there since 2016. The site is located near the Makenzi area, opposite the St. Lazarus Technical School.
According to the District Local Government Organization (EOA), work is proceeding according to the approved schedule. The project is planned for completion by the summer of 2026.
The total budget of the project is 1 million euros. It is being implemented with co-financing from the Water Development Department and is aimed at developing waste recycling, material reuse, and improving the region's environmental infrastructure.
To date, preparatory works, including site leveling, clearing, and surface excavations, have been completed. Walls for the elevated road have also been built and filled. Construction of the shed foundation and retaining wall is currently underway.
The next stages of the project involve:
— landscaping of the area,
— construction of service premises (security post and sanitary units),
— creation of a fire pump room,
— laying of sewerage and rainwater drainage systems,
— installation of a metal shed and auxiliary buildings,
— installation of fences, gates, electrical and mechanical systems,
— arrangement of internal roads, signs, and green zones.
Upon completion, the new facility will significantly reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills, increase recycling levels, and combat illegal dumping. Additionally, the project will help raise environmental awareness among residents.
According to the plans, the center will accept bulky waste, including furniture, household appliances, carpets, glass, and plastic.
Currently, seven such "Green Points" are already operational in the city and district of Larnaca.
