Illegal Beach Campsites Cleared in Larnaca
The Municipality of Larnaca has cleared two illegal beach campsites, removing caravans, vans, and other structures from the coastline.
On Tuesday, the operation targeted two unofficial sites that had reappeared along the Larnaca-Dhekelia road, near the Larnaca Nautical Club.
"Beaches are a public asset and should be accessible to everyone," the municipality stated.
Authorities also warned that any new activities of this kind will be promptly halted.
The statement also mentioned that the possibility of establishing an official campsite in Larnaca is currently under consideration.
The first cleanup of this area took place at the end of July, in collaboration with the police.
Caravans, vans, tents, and other makeshift structures were removed after day-trippers complained to the police about restricted access to the beach, noise pollution from nighttime parties, and litter.
Although the municipality cleared piles of garbage, a new mess soon formed at the campsite after the initial cleanup.
