Unprecedented child pornography case under review in Limassol
The Limassol Criminal Court is continuing hearings in a case that investigators describe as one of the most serious in recent years. On trial is a 45-year-old man facing 15 charges related to the possession, creation, and distribution of child sexual abuse material.
According to the case files, approximately 700 images and more than 10 videos of illegal content were found in the possession of the accused. Investigators emphasize that the severity of the case is heightened by the allegation that some of the material involves his underage daughter.
International investigation;
The case came to light in the summer of 2025 as part of an international operation against crimes targeting children. A U.S. police officer, operating undercover in a specialized online application, contacted a user who, during the exchange, revealed information pointing to particularly serious crimes.
The information was passed on to Cypriot law enforcement. Additional data came through Europol, which helped establish that the suspect was connected not to a single individual but to multiple participants in a criminal network.
Following the analysis of digital evidence, police identified the man and his place of residence. In November, he was detained by the cybercrime unit. During a search, mobile phones and laptops were seized, and forensic analysis confirmed the presence of illegal files, including material involving a minor family member.
The court session scheduled for January 28 was postponed. The accused is currently released on bail. The substantive trial is expected to begin in early March.
