Carnival Museum to Open in Limassol

The Limassol Carnival Museum will open its doors in a month and a half. The opening of the exhibition hall was supposed to take place in 2021.

The upcoming opening of the gallery was announced on Thursday by Limassol Mayor Nikos Nicolaides. The museum, intended to highlight Limassol's rich carnival heritage, will be located in the Panos Solomonides Cultural Center.

The museum will occupy two floors with exhibition and workshop spaces, as well as a rooftop cafeteria.

The exhibition space will consist of exhibits, photographs, videos, and costumes from various sources, including institutions, organizations, and members of the public, with the assistance of the municipal museum of Pattiheyo—the historical archive of Limassol.

The day before, the mayor, along with members of the municipal council, inspected the final stages of the museum's construction. According to his forecasts, after opening, the public space will become "the most visited museum in the country."

Architect-museologist Giorgos Papadopoulos has designed an interactive museum layout aimed at attracting visitors, especially children, to explore the history of the Limassol Carnival through interactive games and exhibits.

He also hinted at the possibility of showcasing carnival parades starting from the 1930s if the municipal authorities obtain permission from the British administration.
