Tragedy in Limassol: Plumber Dies After Falling Into Elevator Shaft at Construction Site
Authorities in Limassol are investigating the tragic death of a 43-year-old plumber who fell into an elevator shaft at a high-rise building under construction in Germasogeia. Police, the Criminal Investigation Department, and the Department of Labour Inspection are working to determine whether proper safety measures were in place at the site.
According to police, the man was found dead around 2:30 PM at the bottom of an elevator shaft in a building over five stories high. He leaves behind two children.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, including police officers, officials from the Limassol Employment Agency, the regional construction supervisor, inspectors from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and forensic experts.
Initial findings suggest the man fell headfirst from an as-yet-undetermined height. Inspectors reported finding four open shaft openings that should have been properly sealed off.
Investigators are also looking into whether there were other workers—possibly undocumented—present at the time, who may have fled the site following the fatal accident. Evidence has already been collected, and statements will be taken from those connected to the construction project to help clarify what exactly led to the deadly incident. The official cause of death will be confirmed through an autopsy.
