50 Kilograms of Drugs Found in Car of Suspect Who Fled Police Chase
More than 50 kilograms of cannabis were found in the car of 41-year-old Antonis Nicolaou, who fled on foot during a police chase and is now wanted by authorities. The vehicle was seized by police yesterday.
The incident took place the day before in the Parekklisia area of Limassol. According to police, officers were pursuing a vehicle driven by a Greek Cypriot man well-known to authorities and previously convicted of drug-related offenses.
During the chase, a collision occurred, prompting police to fire warning shots. Despite this, the driver managed to abandon the vehicle and escape on foot. A search warrant was issued, and the vehicle was secured and transported to the Limassol Police Department. Investigators later confirmed the car had been reported stolen.
A thorough search of the vehicle was conducted earlier today, leading to the discovery of 41 packages containing cannabis with a total weight of 50.5 kilograms. A further search at the suspect’s residence uncovered an additional 20 grams of cannabis.
One police officer sustained minor injuries during the chase and was treated at Limassol General Hospital before being discharged.
The investigation is ongoing. The case is now being handled by the Limassol District Police, with support from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN).
