Teen Driver Caught Speeding at 195 km/h in Nicosia
An 18-year-old driver was caught speeding at 195 km/h on a highway near Latsia, heading toward Nicosia, early Friday morning. According to police, the teen was immediately stopped and arrested.
He was later released after signing a written statement agreeing to appear in court next Tuesday.
Following the incident — and in light of several recent fatal road accidents — the Cyprus Police issued a reminder that driver error remains the leading cause of serious and deadly collisions on the island.
“We once again urge all drivers to remain cautious and strictly follow traffic laws to prevent further loss of life,” the statement read.
With the Easter holiday approaching, police also announced increased safety measures across the country. These include enhanced patrols, especially in areas where traffic is expected to be heavier than usual.
Earlier this week, Cyprus recorded four fatal accidents within 48 hours, raising the death toll on the roads to 11 since the start of the year.
