Hundreds of bottles of counterfeit vodka seized in Nicosia

The Cyprus Customs Service seized a large batch of counterfeit vodka during a coordinated operation in four establishments in the Nicosia district. The inspection took place on 3 December: inspectors discovered and confiscated a total of 434 one-litre bottles and 568 bottles of 0.7 litres which, according to initial indications, were imitations of a well-known brand and infringed intellectual property rights.
The case is being investigated by the Customs Investigation Department. The authority reminds the public that counterfeit alcoholic beverages may contain dangerous and toxic substances and pose a serious health risk. The authorities urge consumers to buy alcohol only from official retailers, check labels, the country of origin and carefully inspect the packaging.
