Man arrested in Nicosia for attempting to smuggle 1.6 kg of methamphetamine hidden in spools of thread

A 29-year-old man was arrested in Nicosia after police discovered and seized 1.6 kg of methamphetamine hidden inside spools of thread. According to the Drug Enforcement Unit (YKAN), the suspect collected a package from one of the courier offices in the capital before being detained.
Upon inspection, officers found the carefully concealed drug hidden among regular goods. The man was brought before a court, which ordered his detention for eight days while further investigations are carried out.
The investigation is looking into possible links between the suspect and larger criminal networks, as well as the origin of the package and its intended recipient. Authorities are examining the transportation route, the courier company’s involvement, and the suspect’s personal contacts.
Police emphasize that this case is part of broader efforts to combat drug trafficking and prevent courier services from being used for the illegal importation of narcotics into Cyprus.
