Teenager Confesses to Vandalizing Hero Monuments in Paphos
Police in Paphos have arrested a minor suspected of defacing monuments dedicated to EOKA fighters. The teenager has admitted to acting alone.
According to reports aired on Alpha Kalimera, the suspect was taken into custody and has already confessed to the act. However, authorities have not yet disclosed his motives.
The vandalism occurred on Sunday evening when the perpetrator sprayed red and blue paint on the walls surrounding the monuments, the engraved busts of the heroes, and the accompanying plaques. The incident took place in an area not covered by security cameras.
At the scene, police found and seized empty spray paint cans as evidence. An investigation is ongoing, including further forensic analysis.
This is not the first time the memorial has been targeted. In February 2023, unknown individuals defaced the monument, and in previous incidents, bronze portraits were stolen from the site and later replaced.
