Coastal Erosion Protection Project Discussed in Paphos
On Tuesday, a meeting was held between representatives of the Paphos and Yeroskipou municipalities regarding the implementation of a project to protect the coastal zone from erosion.
The discussion was prompted by a licensed private marina within the municipal boundaries of Paphos. One of the planned breakwaters could affect both the construction of the marina and the implementation of the general coastal reinforcement project.
Paphos Municipality spokesperson Dr. Christos Christou stated that a solution is possible: designers will study the situation and, if necessary, adjust the placement of one or two breakwaters to avoid conflict between the two projects.
The issue is scheduled for further discussion on Friday during a visit by Cyprus Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works, Alexis Vafeades.
The project is considered "mature," funding is secured, it is included in the "THALEIA 2021–2027" co-financing program, and was previously announced by the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
The Yeroskipou Municipality expressed concern over potential delays, but the designers assured that implementation could proceed on schedule without serious problems.
