In Trachoni, unknown persons attacked firefighters during a fire extinguishing
The PASIDY and SYPYK unions strongly condemned the attack on Cyprus Fire Service personnel that occurred on April 6 in the Trachoni area.
According to the unions, firefighters arrived at a call to extinguish a fire in a church courtyard. When they completed their work and were about to leave the scene, they were stopped by a group of young people. According to witnesses, the attackers insulted, threatened, and pelted the firefighters with stones.
The statement notes that a similar incident occurred earlier — on March 8 in the Polemidia area, where firefighters were also subjected to a stone attack while extinguishing a fire near the Church of Saint Nicholas.
The Minister of Justice and Public Order stated that the investigation will be conducted with maximum rigor, and those responsible must face court. The unions called on the authorities and society to ensure the safety of firefighters and condemn such acts of violence.
