On the first day of the new year, 136 migrants arrived in Cyprus
On the first day of 2024, 136 illegal migrants arrived in Cyprus by boat. A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of organizing the transportation of illegal immigrants. According to the police of the Republic of Cyprus, the coast guard discovered the boat near Cape Greco around 14:00.
Police boats arrived at the scene and escorted the boat with 136 migrants on board to the safe haven of the "Golden Coast" fishing shelter in Paralimni.
Onboard the vessel were 79 men, 10 women, 26 children, and 21 unaccompanied minors who were later transferred to the Pournara Temporary Accommodation Center. Apparently, the passengers arrived in Cyprus from Lebanon.
