The European Open Water Swimming Marathon will take place in Protaras for the first time

In the resort town of Protaras in southern Cyprus, a stage of the European Open Water Swimming Marathon will be held for the first time.
The competitions will take place on April 18 and 19, 2026. The central event will be a 10-kilometer swim for elite athletes, starting from Fig Tree Bay Beach — one of the most famous beaches in the region.
Protaras will become one of the stages of the European series, which will also take place in Munich (Germany), Razanac (Croatia), Barcelona (Spain) and Tenero (Switzerland).
Program of the Protaras stage:
- April 18 — 800-meter swim for Special Olympics athletes
- April 19 — 3 km distance for veterans
Participation of international-level athletes is expected, and the event itself will be an important step in the development of sports tourism in the region.
