Archbishop Georgios Urges a Reassessment of the Cyprus Issue in His Christmas Message
Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus shared his Christmas message, highlighting the need to reevaluate the Cyprus issue as "a matter of invasion and occupation" and calling for renewed efforts to find a just resolution.
“Despite our goodwill and numerous concessions, the occupying power remains unwavering in its unholy ambitions to occupy and Turkify the entire island. We have yet to fully grasp the gravity of the threat we face, which is why we are not addressing the issue effectively,” the Archbishop stated.
He voiced concern that "the Republic of Cyprus has cornered itself by pursuing a solution based on the premise that Greek Cypriots do not have the right to live in a modern state that upholds freedom and respects human rights."
Speaking to the governments of Greece and Cyprus, Archbishop Georgios urged them to "act responsibly, with a deep sense of history and respect for our ancestors, while carefully planning for the future."
He also stressed that this future planning "must adopt a long-term perspective, ensuring that Turkey’s goals do not take precedence over those of Cyprus."
“As citizens of the European Union, we are entitled to the same freedoms enjoyed by all Europeans: the freedom to move, settle, and own property across our homeland. Our ultimate aim must be the liberation of our homeland,” Archbishop Georgios concluded.
