48 suspects arrested in Istanbul corruption case, including Bayrampaşa mayor
The Turkish prosecutor ordered the detention of 48 suspects as part of a corruption investigation in the Bayrampaşa district of Istanbul, Turkish media reported. Operations were carried out early in the morning at several locations.
According to the state broadcaster TRT Haber, police conducted raids at 72 sites in Istanbul to seize documents and detain suspects. The charges are related to embezzlement, bribery, and other crimes.
Among those detained is Bayrampaşa district mayor Hasan Mutlu, a representative of the Republican People’s Party (CHP). In his message on X, he stated that he has nothing to hide and described the investigation as "a political operation based on unfounded slander."
The publication notes that these arrests are part of a campaign against the Republican People’s Party, which, according to the media, has been ongoing for about a year and has resulted in hundreds of party members being arrested and detained.
The report does not specify what official consequences or reactions will follow the new arrests, nor does it provide information on the impact of these events on Cyprus’ interests.
