Nicosia Municipality has signed a contract for the implementation of the first phase of the project to renovate the pedestrian streets of Ledra and Onasagorou — one of the key areas of the capital's historical center.

The agreement was signed at the Nicosia Mayor's office between the municipality and the contracting company A.M. Andronikou Ltd. The project is part of a broader program to revitalize areas along the Green Line and modernize the old city within the Venetian walls.

In the first stage, work will focus on the restoration of building facades. It is planned to renovate 89 buildings with a total area of about 20,000 square meters. Overall, the project will cover a section approximately two kilometers long, and the total area of facades to be modernized will be about 29,500 square meters.

Work will begin on April 23, 2026, immediately after Easter, and is expected to last about 18 months.

The total project budget is 3.44 million euros excluding VAT. Authorities emphasize that during the reconstruction, special attention will be paid to preserving the architectural diversity of the area, where traditional, neoclassical, modernist, and contemporary buildings coexist.

The municipality expects that the renovation will help revitalize the historical and commercial center of Nicosia, making it more attractive for residents, businesses, and tourists.
