Macron and Mitsotakis' visit to Cyprus hailed as 'real manifestation of European solidarity'
House President Annita Demetriou stated that the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Cyprus is a "real manifestation of European solidarity."
According to her, the arrival of the two leaders demonstrates support for the island following the recent drone attack and tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
Demetriou noted that the Democratic Rally party welcomes not only political statements of support but also concrete actions, including the dispatch of military forces to the region by France and Greece in recent days.
She emphasized that Cyprus remains an EU member state on the front line of events in the Eastern Mediterranean, making international support particularly significant.
She also highlighted that the current diplomatic steps are a continuation of the multi-vector foreign policy initiated in 2013 under former President Nicos Anastasiades. This strategy, she said, continues under current President Nikos Christodoulides.
In conclusion, Demetriou stated that the country needs to strengthen its defense capabilities and prepare for potential consequences of the regional crisis, including economic risks and the possibility of new migration flows.
