Cyprus Authorities Do Not Renew BookieCo License After Larnaca Shooting Incident

Amid the investigation into the Larnaca shooting incident, the National Betting Authority of Cyprus (ΕΑΣ) announced the termination of the license of Bookieco Betting Stores Ltd.
The Class A license (No. A016) under the trade name BookieCo expired on February 9, 2026. From February 10, the company is no longer permitted to provide betting services in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus under Betting Law 37(I)/2019.
The ΕΑΣ statement specifies that the provision of betting services is prohibited both at the company’s offices and through its authorized representatives. For settling possible financial obligations to clients, it is advised to contact the company’s registered office in Larnaca.
Recall that during the investigation of the events of January 17, the police detained a 47-year-old entrepreneur, who, according to media reports, owns the company.
He faces charges of:
- interference with the judicial process,
- conspiracy to commit an offense.
Additionally, the 47-year-old defendant is accused of illegal possession of property — large amounts of cash and 42 cheques totaling over 500,000 euros were found in his company’s offices.
The court hearing is scheduled for March 11, 2026. Until then, he remains free on bail — set at 80,000 euros, with passports confiscated and a travel ban in place.
The National Betting Authority stated that it is ready to consider possible player complaints and assist in dispute resolution.
