Authorities: Cypriot Airspace Remains Open
The Cypriot government has stated that the country's airspace remains open, despite media reports of its closure.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport stated that flights are continuing as normal. However, he did not comment on information regarding a passenger flight from Athens to Larnaca that was allegedly forced to turn back.
Earlier, Reuters reported that Cypriot airspace might have been temporarily closed after a suspicious object was detected near Lebanese airspace.
Reports of a possible closure of the skies emerged after Greek F-16 fighter jets stationed in Paphos scrambled due to a suspicious object heading towards Cyprus from the direction of Lebanon.
The alert was issued around 09:30 and lifted approximately half an hour later. It was later revealed that two drones heading towards the island were intercepted by the Greek fighters.
