New Bike Paths Near Atalassa Park to Be Built for €3 Million
An agreement has been signed in Cyprus for the creation of new bike paths across three municipalities. So, what routes are included in the project?
According to the Ministry of Transport, the project will involve the construction of a 2.9 km bike and pedestrian path next to Atalassa Park, along Kalamon Avenue and Glafkos Klidieris Avenue, just south of the nature reserve. This new trail will essentially extend the existing bike lane that runs alongside the road, from the Nicosia General Hospital roundabout heading eastward to the turnoff for Atalassa Park.
The project will also involve expanding the sidewalk on the eastern side of Kantaras Street in Latsia, stretching from its intersection with Kalamon Avenue to the existing sidewalk near Argolidos Street. In addition, the plans include adding tree-lined strips, pedestrian crossings, street lighting, road signs, a rainwater management system, and various utility works.
The infrastructure will be designed to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities, while also making the area safer and more convenient for both pedestrians and cyclists. This initiative aims to improve the urban environment and make travel more enjoyable. The total cost of the project is €3.1 million, and it is expected to take 18 months to complete. The project is set to be finished by the fall of 2026.
