Doctors raise alarm: cancer patients wait weeks for treatment

The PASIKI Health Workers' Union criticized the state organization OKYPA (Οργανισμός Κρατικών Υπηρεσιών Υγείας), responsible for managing public hospitals and medical services. The reason was the serious problems faced by patients undergoing cancer treatment.
In its statement, PASIKI emphasized that public oncology departments experience long delays in conducting examinations and therapeutic procedures, a lack of modern equipment, and a shortage of specialized staff. Additionally, patients complain about bureaucratic difficulties in obtaining appointments and limited access to new medications.
The union called on OKYPA management to immediately take measures to improve coordination between departments, speed up the delivery of medical services, and ensure equal access to all types of oncology care. The statement also notes the need to expand funding programs and implement a transparent mechanism for monitoring treatment quality.
PASIKI stressed that the timeliness and quality of medical care for cancer patients directly affect survival. "Every delay in diagnosis and treatment can cost lives," the union's statement reads.
