All school buses in Cyprus have returned to their routes
On Monday morning in Cyprus, all school buses resumed their operations. After extensive inspections and the installation of fire prevention equipment, all vehicles are back on their routes.
Speaking on CyBC radio, Loizos Konstantinou, the President of the Association of Parents of Secondary School Students, stated that all 580 buses previously taken out of service have returned to the lines.
During the week, automatic fire suppression systems were ordered, received, and installed on all buses.
It is also noted that, for various reasons, some buses used for trips by private schools may still lack an automatic fire suppression system. These vehicles will undergo additional checks.
For now, students of private schools are either using regular bus routes or transportation provided by independent companies hired by schools under contract.
Recall that a transport crisis occurred in Cyprus at the beginning of last week: 580 buses that did not meet safety requirements were removed from service.
The reason for the vehicle inspections was a fire in a school bus carrying 40 children. The vehicle caught fire while in motion. Fortunately, none of the students were harmed – they all managed to evacuate from the burning bus in time.
Over the past few months, this has been the fourth incident involving buses, including those transporting schoolchildren.
