Truck Driver Arrested After Cyclist’s Death in Limassol
Cypriot police have arrested a truck driver who fatally hit a cyclist in Limassol yesterday and then fled the scene. Following his arrest, the 71-year-old driver admitted that he had not realized he had struck a person.
According to the police press office, the truck involved in the accident was found with distinctive collision marks. The vehicle has been sent for forensic analysis.
The fatal accident occurred early yesterday morning at the intersection of Ezopu and Papaioannou Streets in Ipsona, Limassol District. Police arriving at the scene discovered the deceased man and a bicycle lying nearby.
It has since been revealed that the victim was a 42-year-old asylum seeker from Iran.
Police believe that at the time of the accident, the man was heading to Northern Cyprus, as he was found with products from a local bakery. The exact cause of death will be determined during the autopsy.
