Residents of Baths of Aphrodite area complain about wave of thefts and burglaries
Residents of the Baths of Aphrodite area in the Polis Chrysochous region are expressing serious concern over the increasing number of burglaries and thefts from homes.
According to local residents and owners of short-term rental properties, perpetrators are acting almost with impunity, committing thefts even in houses where tourists are present at the time. Such incidents cause fear among guests and deal a serious blow to the reputation of property owners.
Some residents claim that one house was broken into six times, despite tenants being inside.
In Paphos, police confirmed that there has been a recent increase in such crimes. According to police spokesperson Michalis Nikolaou, patrolling, night surveillance, and checks have already been intensified in the region, but no arrests have been made yet.
In turn, the Mayor of Polis Chrysochous, Yiotis Papachristofi, announced that the municipality plans to install CCTV cameras at various points in the area to increase security levels and prevent new crimes.
