Cyprus resident loses €10,000 to SMS scammers
Police are investigating a new case of online fraud following a complaint from a 47-year-old woman who lost €10,000.
According to police, the woman received an SMS purportedly from the GeSY healthcare system requesting a profile update. By following the link, she reached a website mimicking the official one, where she entered her personal details and bank card information.
The next day, the bank informed her of a suspicious transaction — 10,000 euros had already been debited from her account.
Police remind the public that government services never request banking data via SMS or links and urge citizens to be cautious with such messages.
