Cyprus Museum of Modern Art

Although the collection is located on the university's grounds, it is a full-fledged museum, one of the most important and the largest in the entire Middle Eastern region.

Founded on August 9, 2018, the Cyprus Museum of Modern Art at Near East University was conceived as the largest modern art museum in the Middle Eastern region, with infrastructure that allows exhibitions of any complexity to take place.

Halls of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Art

The six-story Cyprus Museum of Modern Art at Near East University consists of a total of 14 halls with a foyer that accommodates up to 1,300 people. The exhibitions are located in the following halls:

  • 4 permanent collection halls
  • 2 temporary collection halls
  • 2 photography exhibition halls
  • 3 sculpture collection halls

In addition, the museum complex includes a conference hall for 120 people, where conferences and symposia can be held, VIP and guest halls, 2 panoramic elevators, studios and laboratories for analyzing rare works and conducting restoration work, special sound and lighting infrastructure, a photo studio, specialist offices, meeting rooms, climate-controlled storage to protect special artworks, repair and operational workshops. There is also a fully equipped library, archive, and souvenir shop.

The Cyprus Museum of Modern Art boasts an impressive collection of over 8,000 works of art, dating from the 1940s to the present day. The collection of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Art consists of works by artists from 14 Turkic states, best representing their countries in the context of art history. The majority of the collection is stored in specially designed rooms for its protection.

The museum is closed on Mondays. From Tuesday to Sunday, the exhibition is open from 10:00 to 16:30.

Who can visit the museum for free?

Entry to the museum is free for TRNC citizens, employees and students of Near East University, military personnel working in the TRNC, and their families, as well as employees of the Turkish Embassy in Nicosia and their families.
