275 violations in one raid: Nicosia traffic police intensified road controls
During nationwide traffic checks, officers of the General Police Directorate identified 275 rule violations and confiscated 32 vehicles.
A total of 1857 drivers were checked. According to police data, the most common violation was speeding — 109 drivers were held accountable for it.
Cases of drunk driving were also recorded — 11 drivers were detained for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Another 2 people were driving without a license and insurance, and 9 drivers were without valid insurance.
Other violations included: mobile phone use while driving (5 cases), unfastened seat belts (13 cases), lack of valid MOT (8 cases), and driving unregistered vehicles (15 cases).
In addition, 12 drivers violated road signs and signals, and 5 violated traffic light rules.
Separately, the police reported 86 cases in which legal proceedings were initiated for other traffic rule violations.
As part of the raids, traffic police intensified control over the most dangerous violations, including speeding and driving under the influence. According to law enforcement officers, such checks are aimed at reducing accidents and increasing road safety.
