Bağımsızlık Yolu Party Calls on Parliament to Legislate Free Access to Beaches
The political party Bağımsızlık Yolu (“Path of Independence”) issued a written statement calling on members of parliament to include on the agenda and approve legislative changes that protect citizens’ rights to the coastline.
The statement concerns the proposed “Law on the Use and Control of Beaches (Amendment),” which was previously submitted to parliament by the civic movement Beleşe Deniz Plajlar Halkındır Hareketi (“Free Sea and Beaches Belong to the People Movement”).
Bağımsızlık Yolu emphasized that the bill is an important part of the struggle to preserve coastal areas. The document includes specific legal mechanisms aimed at ensuring free and unhindered access for the public to beaches, as well as introducing penalties for individuals and organizations that pollute the sea.
In the party’s official statement, it is noted that seas and beaches are a common living space not only for current but also for future generations, and therefore the country’s coastline must unconditionally belong to the people.
