April 2024 Becomes the Hottest Month in Meteorological History
April 2024 has become the hottest month on record, marking the 11th consecutive month of record-breaking heat on Earth. The global temperature was recorded 1.58°C above the historical average.
According to the European climate service Copernicus, April 2024 has been the hottest April in recorded history since observations began in 1973. Temperature records have been set for the 11th month in a row.
Meteorologists state that this is one of the most prolonged series of global temperature records in decades.
In April of this year, the average global air temperature reached 15.03°C, which is 0.14°C higher than the previous record in 2016. Furthermore, over the past year, the world's average temperature has exceeded the pre-industrial period by 1.61°C.
Scientists believe that the rise in global air temperature worldwide could threaten life on the planet.
"While temperature fluctuations associated with natural cycles come and go, the additional energy trapped in the ocean and atmosphere due to increased greenhouse gas concentrations will continue to push global temperatures to new records," Bloomberg quoted Copernicus director Carlo Buontempo as saying.
