British Tourists Warned Against Traveling to Cyprus Due to Heatwave

The UK has issued a "red alert" for its citizens planning to vacation at popular Mediterranean resorts. Due to the impending heatwave, tourists are warned against traveling to Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, and Spain.

According to local media, the UK Foreign Office has revised its travel advisories for these popular tourist destinations due to the record-high temperatures expected in the region this summer.

The British Foreign Office's warning highlights that especially hot weather is anticipated in Cyprus. Forecasts predict that air temperatures on the island will "reach unprecedented levels."

In light of this, British travelers are strongly advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. The warning also pertains to extreme weather conditions that recently affected Mallorca and Austria during the peak holiday season.

Additionally, the current heatwave, driven by hot and dusty winds from North Africa, is significantly impacting the region.

Greek state television meteorologist Panos Giannopoulos stated that the upcoming heatwave "will be historic."

"In the 20th century, we never faced such high temperatures before June 19. In the 21st century, we have seen them several times, but never before June 15," the expert noted.

In Turkey, air temperatures reached around 30°C, while in Greece, thermometers soared to a record 45°C.

It is worth noting that Cyprus has been experiencing unusually hot weather for the third consecutive week. Several temperature records have been broken in Northern Cyprus. Last week, due to excessively high temperatures, Northern Cyprus implemented several work bans under the sun and established a special hotline for reporting violations. The extreme heat has led to several large fires on both parts of the island.
